Taking a cue from the circular economy, we will create a sustainable and "pleasant" future in Hakuba Village.
Hakuba Village is blessed with magnificent nature.
The effects of climate change have been very closely felt when being in the midst of such rich nature.
To preserve this beautiful nature for the next generations, Hakuba aims to become a sutainable and "pleasant " place,
just like this village where locals have grown up with nature and played with it.

First of all, it started
with local high school students.
On September 20, 2019, students from Hakuba High School raised their voices and held the Global Climate March. The high school students, who felt the effects of climate change such as unstable snowfall right next to them, started to demand concrete actions to protect the beautiful nature. A large number of people, from children to adults, supported the march and submitted the petition with collected signatures to the mayor of Hakuba Village. In response to the villagers' voices, Hakuba Village declared a "Climate Emergency" on December 4th, 2019. In order to protect the rich nature, the entire village people will join forces to face the crisis of climate change.

Playing, Plotting,
and Producing Sustainability
Protecting the nature we love while enriching our own lives. It's not easy. That's why we want to challenge ourselves while having fun. We think as we play, gather to plot, and produce with our hands. Hakuba is a village where we will continue to live while playing with nature. That is all about Hakuba.

READCLOSETogether with local children, we would like to take on the challenge of manufacturing that will grow and enrich the forests. About 83% of the total area of Hakuba Village is forested, but it is said that less than 5% of that area is used for lumber in the village. The forests of Hakuba, with their rich diversity of species, are a resource full of potential. Our goal is to develop a culture of forest utilization in Hakuba Village, and to increase the number of bases where children can play and learn together.
