Nature of spring: Sodium chloride, hydrogen carbonate hot spring “Kurashita no Yu” at the Hakuba Shionomichi Onsen has water that tastes salty when you lick it. This is because it was originally seawater which was confined deep in the active fossa magna that divided the Japanese Islands and brought up from the stratum of 1,050m below ground after 25 million years when the Northern Alps which was at the bottom of the sea rose by crustal movement. A few hot springs at Shinshu and Hakuba uses this water, but Kurashita no Yu contains rich minerals which others don't and pours out an amazing 1,500 liters of hot water every minute. You can feel the ancient history while watching the Northern Alps from the outdoor baths while bathing in a 100% natural source hot spring.
